Early Life

Courteney Cox was born the youngest of four children to Courteney and Richard Lewis Cox in Birmingham, Alabama. Following her parents’ divorce in 1974, Cox lived with her mother and stepfather, Hunter Copeland. During her childhood, she developed a passion for swimming and tennis. Cox attended Mount Vernon College, where she studied architecture for a year, before deciding to leave her studies behind in favor of a modeling career in New York City. Acting Career

Courteney Cox’s breakthrough came when director Brian De Palma cast her in Bruce Springsteen’s iconic music video “Dancing in the Dark.” In 1985, she relocated to Los Angeles and landed the role of Lauren Miller, Michael J. Fox’s girlfriend, on the popular TV series Family Ties. However, Cox is perhaps best known for her portrayal of Monica Geller on the acclaimed television series Friends (1994-2004), a role that catapulted her to international fame.

Cox’s film career began with Down Twisted (1986), followed by notable roles in films such as Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (1994), where she starred alongside Jim Carrey, and Wes Craven’s Scream (1996) and its sequel Scream 2 (1998). She also appeared in Commandments (1997). In 2010, Cox earned a Golden Globe nomination for her portrayal of a recently-divorced woman in the television series Cougar Town (2009), which further cemented her standing in Hollywood.

Personal Life

Cox was in a relationship with actor Michael Keaton from 1990 to 1995. She married actor David Arquette on June 12, 1999, and the couple welcomed their daughter, Coco, in June 2004. After separating in 2010, Cox and Arquette finalized their divorce in 2012. She is currently engaged to Johnny McDaid, a member of the band Snow Patrol.
