Adele Postpones Concert Dates Due to Health Concerns

Adele has announced the postponement of her Las Vegas residency concerts at Caesars Palace through March, citing health issues affecting her vocal performance. The Grammy-winning artist revealed on February 27 that she has been advised by doctors to prioritize her recovery.

In an emotional Instagram post, Adele shared, “I hadn’t quite gotten the chance to get back to full health before the shows resumed, and now I’m sick again. Unfortunately, it’s all taken a toll on my voice. I love you. I’ll miss you like mad, and I’m sorry for the inconvenience.”

Despite the current postponements, dates for her residency shows scheduled in May and June remain available on ticketing platforms such as Ticketmaster. Additionally, Adele is set to return to Europe for the first time in eight years, with ten performances planned in Germany this August.

Who Is Adele?

Adele, the acclaimed British singer-songwriter, has garnered immense global success, selling millions of albums and captivating audiences with her powerful vocals and emotive songwriting. Known for iconic tracks such as “Rolling in the Deep,” “Someone Like You,” and “Hello,” Adele’s journey in music began shortly after she graduated from a performing arts school near London, when she signed a record deal at the age of 18.

Her debut album, 19, released in 2008, was met with critical acclaim and commercial success, earning her the Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 2009. Subsequent albums, including the highly successful 21, 25, and most recently, 30 (released in November 2021), have further solidified her status as a musical powerhouse. To date, Adele has received 16 Grammy Awards and one Academy Award, making her the first artist in Grammy history to sweep the top three categories—Album, Song, and Record of the Year—twice.

Currently, Adele is captivating audiences with her residency in Las Vegas, which commenced in November 2022, showcasing her extraordinary talent and reaffirming her place in contemporary music history.

Where Is Adele From?

Adele Laurie Blue Adkins, widely known as Adele, was born on May 5, 1988, in North London, England. She is the only child of Penny Adkins, a creative mother who was just 18 at the time of Adele’s birth, and Mark Evans, a Welsh father who left the family when Adele was four years old.

Despite their separation, Evans maintained contact with Adele until her teenage years. Unfortunately, his struggles with alcohol and their growing estrangement ultimately strained their relationship. In contrast, Adele developed a close bond with her mother, who encouraged her to explore various interests rather than conforming to a single path.

Adele’s passion for music emerged early in her life. Influenced by artists such as Lauryn Hill, Mary J. Blige, and Destiny’s Child, her musical awakening occurred at the age of 15 when she discovered a collection of Etta James and Ella Fitzgerald records in a local shop. Reflecting on this pivotal moment, she shared in a 2008 interview with The Telegraph, “There was no musical heritage in our family. Chart music was all I ever knew. So when I listened to the Ettas and the Ellas, it sounds so cheesy, but it was like an awakening. I was like, oh, right, some people have proper longevity and are legends. I was so inspired that as a 15-year-old I was listening to music that had been made in the ’40s.”

Academically, Adele did not thrive in traditional classroom settings. Recognizing her creative talents, her mother enrolled her in the Brit School for Creative & Performing Arts, an institution renowned for its illustrious alumni, including actor Tom Holland and the late singer Amy Winehouse. During her time at the Brit School, Adele recorded a three-track demo for a class project, which she subsequently posted on her MySpace page. This demo caught the attention of executives at XL Recordings, who signed the 18-year-old artist to a record deal in November 2006, just four months after her graduation.

Years later, Adele reconciled with her father in early 2021 while he battled a recurrence of cancer. In an interview with Rolling Stone, she described their candid conversation about their relationship, during which she played him songs from her upcoming album. Evans passed away that May, and Adele reflected on their final interaction, stating, “I don’t think I understood the true deepness of how I felt about my dad until we spoke. It was like I let out one wail and something left [at his death]. I’ve felt so calm ever since then. It really did set little me free.”

Albums

Adele has released four albums to date, beginning with her debut, 19, in 2008. Each album is named after the age at which she started its recording. Her subsequent albums, 21 and 25, both received the prestigious Grammy Award for Album of the Year, further solidifying her impact on the music industry.

Top Songs by Adele

Adele’s musical journey began with the release of “Chasing Pavements,” the lead single from her debut album, which marked her first entry on the charts in both the United Kingdom and the United States. The song, written after a heated argument with her then-boyfriend at a London club, captures a moment of introspection. Adele recalled, “It was six in the morning. There was no one chasing me; I wasn’t chasing anyone. I was just running away. I remember saying to myself, ‘What you’re chasing is you’re chasing an empty pavement.’” Released in January 2008, “Chasing Pavements” peaked at No. 2 on the Official Singles Chart and reached No. 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 in February 2009.

Since then, Adele has achieved remarkable success, including three No. 1 hits in the U.K.—“Someone Like You,” “Hello,” and “Easy On Me”—as well as five chart-toppers in the U.S. Her No. 1 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 include:

  • “Rolling in the Deep”
  • “Someone Like You”
  • “Set Fire to the Rain”
  • “Hello”
  • “Easy On Me”

Many of Adele’s ballads draw inspiration from her personal experiences, particularly her love life. “Rolling in the Deep,” her first Billboard No. 1 single in May 2011, was penned the day after her breakup with her “first real relationship,” which she described as pivotal in her journey to adulthood. Similarly, “Someone Like You” was written to help her cope with the end of her relationship with photographer Alex Sturrock. However, not all her songs are born from heartache; during a live performance, Adele revealed that “Set Fire to the Rain” was inspired by the amusing moment when her lighter failed to work in the rain.

“Hello,” notable for its striking visual presentation and historic popularity, was directed by emerging filmmaker Xavier Dolan. It became the first music video shot with IMAX cameras and was the first single to achieve over 1 million downloads in its first week.

Overall, Adele has garnered a significant presence in the music industry, with 19 songs appearing in the U.K. Top 75 and 25 songs on the Billboard Hot 100, including eight Top 10 hits.

Grammys and Additional Awards

Adele has achieved remarkable success in her music career, winning 16 Grammy Awards from a total of 25 nominations. Her most recent accolade was her fourth Grammy for Best Solo Pop Performance, awarded for her single “Easy on Me” in 2023.

Adele’s journey at the Grammys began in 2009, when she garnered her first two awards: Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for “Chasing Pavements.” In 2012, she made a significant impact at the ceremony, winning a total of six Grammys, including the prestigious Song of the Year and Record of the Year for “Rolling in the Deep,” along with Album of the Year for her critically acclaimed album 21. During her acceptance speech, she remarked, “This record is inspired by something that is really normal and everyone’s been through it—just a rubbish relationship.”

In 2017, Adele made history by becoming the first artist to sweep the top three Grammy categories twice. Her hit “Hello” won both Song and Record of the Year, while 25 was awarded Album of the Year. In total, she received five Grammys that evening. Notably, she expressed admiration for fellow nominee Beyoncé, stating, “But my artist of my life is Beyoncé, and this album for me, the Lemonade album, was just so monumental.”

Adele’s contributions to film music are also noteworthy; her song “Skyfall,” which served as the theme for the 2012 James Bond film of the same name, won the Grammy for Best Song Written for Visual Media in 2014, following its success at the Academy Awards and Golden Globes the previous year.

Beyond her Grammy achievements, Adele has accumulated numerous other accolades. Her debut album 19 earned her the title of “Sound of 2008” by the BBC, and she was recognized with the Critics’ Choice prize at the BRIT Awards that same year. In 2022, she took a significant step toward EGOT status by winning an Emmy Award for Outstanding Prerecorded Variety Special for Adele: One Night Only, a televised concert at Los Angeles’ Griffith Observatory, which also featured an interview with Oprah Winfrey. During this event, Adele famously orchestrated a surprise marriage proposal for two fans, further solidifying her reputation as a beloved figure in the entertainment industry.

Boyfriend Rich Paul

Adele has been in a relationship with Rich Paul since 2021. Paul is a prominent sports agent and the founder of Klutch Sports Group, which represents notable NBA players, including superstar LeBron James. The couple made their public debut at an NBA Finals game in July 2021, although they had reportedly been together for several months prior to this appearance.

In September 2023, rumors of their marriage surfaced when Adele referred to Paul as “my husband” during an interaction with fans at one of her concerts. The following month, Paul appeared on CBS Mornings and praised their relationship, stating, “She’s superb. We’ve been great for each other.” However, he did not address the speculation regarding their marital status.

Adele and Simon Konecki: Co-Parenting Their Son

Adele shares a son, Angelo, with her ex-husband Simon Konecki. The couple began their relationship in late 2011 and maintained a long-term partnership. Konecki is known as the founder of Life Water and the charity Drop4Drop.

On June 29, 2012, Adele announced her pregnancy on her website, expressing her desire to embrace motherhood. “I really want to be a mum. I better start getting on with it!” she shared. Their son, Angelo, was born on October 19, 2012.

In early 2017, Adele was seen wearing a wedding band, leading to speculation about their marital status. During her Grammy acceptance speech that same year, she referred to Konecki as her husband, although she later described him as her “partner” in backstage interviews. Officially, their marriage is cited as having taken place in May 2018. In April 2019, Adele’s representatives confirmed that the couple had separated, and their divorce was finalized two years later.

Despite their separation, Adele and Konecki continue to co-parent Angelo, who is now in his preteen years.

Weight Loss

Adele underwent a remarkable transformation in her diet and exercise routines, incorporating weightlifting and circuit training into her regimen. Her significant weight loss of approximately 100 pounds garnered widespread attention in 2019 and 2020, particularly highlighted by striking photos showcasing her new physique. During an October 2020 appearance as host of Saturday Night Live, she humorously remarked on her transformation, stating, “But actually, because of all the COVID restrictions… I had to travel light and I could only bring half of me, and this is the half I chose.”

In discussing her journey, Adele emphasized that her workouts were not solely focused on weight loss but were instrumental in managing the anxiety she experienced during her divorce. “Working out, I would just feel better… it was never about losing weight; it was always about becoming strong and giving myself as much time every day without my phone. I got quite addicted to it,” she shared with British Vogue.

Net Worth

As of January 2024, Adele’s net worth is estimated to be approximately $220 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.
